Why are Communities so Important?
It’s essential to have a strong community because they are a very important source of social connection as well as giving people a sense of belonging. If you are familiar with the Blue Zones, you’ll know that community is essential to having a long, healthy and fulfilling life. In fact, connections in the community account for a great percentage of the responsibility for great health, even more than healthy food choices!
Profound effects can be felt in the absence of social connections and community on our overall wellness. They affect the following areas in one’s life.
Elevated risk factors. Those who lack strong social connections put their physical health at risk and may experience higher levels of stress and inflammation to name a few.Â
Disease. Especially chronic diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and immune disorders are common among those who lack social connectedness.
Mental health. Social connections can can lower stress and anxiety and create a thriving environment.
